With Christmas just around the corner, consumers are being bombarded with last-minute specials to make sure our hard-earned cash is spent with them this Holiday season. Here’s a few campaigns that in my opinion are the best and most memorable of the season.
1. Coke Zero
We’ve all attended, or at least heard of the infamous ugly sweater parties around the holidays. Coke Zero took this tradition to a whole new level by creating a sweater generator on their website. Consumers were encouraged to design their own sweater and the top 100 tacky sweater masterminds, as voted on by the internet were handcrafted and shipped to their creators just in time for the Holiday Season. Generate Your Sweater Now!
2. Fruit of the Loom
To summarize in 2 words, Free Underwear. For a 30 day period, Fruit of the Loom sent a message to LinkedIn members who either changed jobs or got a new job, allowing them to claim some undies on the house. Why you ask? Because “Great fitting underwear can help you start your workday in a great mood.”
Brands are consistently trying to find new and innovative ways to engage with consumers. Heineken created an Instagram scavenger hunt that eventually led 9 winners to 18 Free tickets to the U.S. Open Men’s Final.
How it worked: Fans had to follow the @crack_the_us_open Instagram page, search the posted photos of fans for clues, and comment on the correct photo with a code word given each day. Fans who commented first and followed clues that led to the last photo had a chance at winning tickets!
Apple does it again with their holiday ad that I must say pulls on the heartstrings a little. Apple is always one step ahead of the competition when it comes to showing the value and usefulness of their products. Check out the commercial below that has over 4.5 million views on YouTube .
5. John Lewis Retail – The Bear & The Hare
UK based retailer John Lewis’s motto is “Bringing Quality to Life”, where they strive to achieve a better, more sustainable way of doing business. Everything from the buildings they do business in, to the partners they keep and the products they sell – their commitment is truly one to be inspired. In 2014 they launched a holiday commercial called The Bear & The Hare that has gone viral, with over 1.3 million views in just a single day.
6. WestJet Christmas Miracle: Real-Time Giving
WestJet, a Canadian based airline made miracles happen for 250 unsuspecting passengers. But it’s the airline that may have received the biggest Christmas surprise, just a few short days after going live it received over 13 million views across 200 countries and millions in free advertising.
7. Kmart – Show Your Joe
Ring in the holidays with Joe Boxer from Kmart. This ad stirred up quite a bit of controversy and a whole lot of press coverage. I’d say job well done!
